Though we are not resuming in person meetings just yet, we are trying to develop a plan for meetings as well as field trips. Things will probably look a lot different once we do begin meeting again. We welcome your opinions and suggestions on this matter.
Please check your email and our Facebook Site for any updates on the status of meetings. If you have any questions you may contact: RoxaneWilson 863-993-1649 or email fossilfreaks2@yahoo.com or idigfossils13@embarqmail.com. If you have any articles or fossil hunting stories you would like to share, please email them to me at either address listed above. It can be short or long and may include photos if you wish. Thank you.

The Fossil Society Needs Your Help!
The Covid-19 pandemic has been hard on a lot of organizations out there, and ours is no exception. We are hoping to begin doing field trips and in-person meetings sometime in the spring (on a limited basis), but can’t do that without your support. We need to hear from club members on how they think we should proceed in 2021. We are especially looking for volunteers to begin the organization and planning process. If you can spare 1 or 2 days/month, there are positions open for volunteers on several SWFFS committees, including: The Field Trip Committee, The Educational Outreach Committee, The Nominations Committee, The Membership Committee and The Refreshments Committee. If you are interested in joining the club and/or helping get things rolling again, please send an email and let us know what you can assist with. Thanks!

Annual Scholarship Auction
By: Walter W. Stein
We need some paleontology help for a good cause… scholarships for young paleontologists.
As some of you may know, I have been a member of the Southwest Florida Fossil Society, for the
last ten years. Each year the society, which is a 501-c-3 non profit organization, puts on an annual
live auction for its members. All proceeds go towards scholarships for young paleontologists
($1,000 each). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the board had decided not to put on the live auction this year. As a new board member, however, I offered to host this years auction online, through a FACEBOOK auction for February 2021.
It’s late in the planning phase though, so I am asking my paleo friends if they have anything they
would be able to donate to the auction. This could be fossils, minerals, crystals, casts, some artifacts, art, paleontology/geology books, field gear, tours or really just about anything paleontology
or natural history related. People who donate will have their company or personal name marketed
with the item during the auction so there would be some good PR for you (and society members
do like to buy fossils, hint hint).
I will be donating some dino teeth and a dinosaur dig for the SWFFS auction ourselves. If you are
interested in helping out to raise money for a good cause, please shoot me an email
stein151@comcast.net and I will give you details on where to send the donation items. If you can’t
donate, but like to buy, please keep in mind our SFFS auction will be sometime in February.
Thanks for your consideration and best wishes!
